The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veteran's organization. Focusing on service to veterans, service members and communities, the Legion evolved from a group of war-weary veterans of World War 1 into one of the most influential nonprofit groups in the United States. Since our charter March 21st 1947, our post Sgt. Preston Ashley American Legion Post 228 has been welcoming Veterans from all branches of our Armed Forces. Today, we continue to welcome all military personnel serving our country and also all members of the Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion, and Riders. The American Legion mission is to implement the goals, dreams, aspirations peace and blessings for our Country and Community, friends and families embodied in our preamble below.
Preamble to the Constitution of The American Legion
FOR GOD AND COUNTRY WE ASSOCIATE OURSELVES TOGETHER FOR THE FOLLOWING PURPOSES:
To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America;
To maintain law and order;
To foster and perpetuate a one hundred percent Americanism;
To preserve the memories and incidents of our associations in the Great Wars;
To inculcate a sense of obligation to the community, state and nation;
To combat the autocracy of both the classes and the masses;
To make right the master of might;
To promote peace and goodwill on earth;
To safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom and democracy;
To consecrate and sanctify our comradeship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness.
The American Legion's success depends entirely on active membership, participation and volunteerism. The organization belongs to the people it serves and the communities in which it thrives. Please help us to continue to support our community by supporting the Legion Family events.
To all who have served America...
THANK YOU!
